It is very important that you as a homeowner or a tenant know where the STOP COCK is located in the property.

This is the control tap for your mains cold water, if you’re unfortunate enough to have a burst pipe or broken tap, with water causing damage to your floors and furnishings, then you need to find your stopcock quickly. If you don’t, your home could be badly damaged before the plumber arrives.

The most common place to find your stopcock would be:

1) Under the kitchen sink.
2) By the gas meter
3) Cupboard under stairs. (common for flats and they can sometimes be in communal corridors where you’ll find stopcocks for other flats)
